Parental Engagement

Parental engagement is a valued part of life at East Park Primary School, and we recognise that strong partnerships between home and school play a vital role in shaping pupils’ learning, confidence and future success.

From Nursery, our Stay, Play and Learn sessions encourage parents to become actively involved in their children’s early learning and development. Throughout the school, parents are invited to participate in curriculum immersion days and learning activities across many curriculum areas, including Art, Phonics, English, Science and Maths, helping them understand how knowledge and skills are taught and how they can support learning at home.

We also provide information seminars for parents to explain statutory assessments in Year 1, Year 4 and Year 6, ensuring families understand expectations and how best to support their children.

Parents regularly join us to celebrate key events, including family sports days, sporting competitions, achievement assemblies, music events and class performances. In addition, we draw upon parents’ professional expertise, personal achievements and experiences to enrich the curriculum, broaden pupils’ horizons and provide meaningful links between learning and the wider world.

Through this collaborative approach, we value parents as partners in their children’s education, recognising that working together helps to shape our pupils’ aspirations, experiences and achievements.

 SEND and Well-Being Coffee Morning.

On Wednesday 15th October, we were delighted to host our latest SEND Coffee Morning. It was fantastic to see parents and carers from across our school community coming together to connect, share experiences, and access valuable guidance. The morning provided a welcoming, informal space for families to chat over a hot drink, ask questions, and learn more about the support available both within school and across the wider community.

Our school leaders were on hand throughout the event to offer personalised advice and guidance. Our SENDCO, Mr Burletson, spoke with parents about classroom adaptations, Individual Provision Maps, and how we tailor learning to meet every child's individual needs. Alongside him, our Safeguarding and Wellbeing Officer, Miss Jones-Wedgner, shared insights on pastoral care, emotional wellbeing strategies, and practical resources available to support families at home.

We were also privileged to welcome Nicola from the Aim Higher Charity, who brought a wealth of external expertise to the morning. Nicola offered invaluable advice on local community services, family support networks, and extra opportunities designed to empower young people and their families.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the session so positive and constructive. The collaborative partnership between home, school, and community agencies is vital in ensuring our children thrive.

If you were unable to make it this time, please do not worry, as we plan to hold regular coffee mornings throughout the academic year. Details for our next event will be shared soon in the school newsletter. In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding SEND support, safeguarding, or student wellbeing, please feel free to reach out to Mr Burletson or Miss Jones-Wedgner via the school office.
